What's a good, lazy way to make eggs?
valkaressJul 8, 1:17 PM
I've never been one to eat eggs super often, but I'm looking to change that. Is there a good combination of: minimal prep effort, minimal cleanup, minimal added calories, while still tasting pretty decent?

Poached is my preferred style of egg. Can be done multiple ways.
subrosian1·Jul 8, 2:08 PM
Hard boil a bunch of them at a time
angelus_demens·Jul 8, 2:12 PM
You can scramble eggs in a cup in a microwave takes less than two minutes you just need a cup and a fork to stir them.
saberwolfbeast·Jul 8, 2:27 PM
Boiling, i prefer 6,5 to 7 minutes. Cold water bath after and they're easy to peel.
dystopiadattopia·Jul 8, 4:02 PM
Boil water. Put in eggs. Turn off heat. Cover pot. Wait 15 minutes. Boom, hard boiled eggs. Put in a couple glugs of white vinegar in the boiling water to make the eggs easier to peel.
lordbyronscup·Jul 8, 4:49 PM
My pop sent me one of [these](https://www.acehardware.com/departments/home-and-decor/kitchen-utensils-and-gadgets/bakeware/6092600?x429=true&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20155431095&gbraid=0AAAAADtqLJHW4DD3_EoCMgtysuxTWQat1&gclid=CjwKCAjwvqjOBhAGEiwAngeQnbdnzHSzmx_x_oCZTmtRaaCxWcpAKctjb4hxbpMMtf3PXnpxLD7lnRoCF60QAvD_BwE) and I didn't use it for a year, scoffing at it. It works great. I can poach, Sunnyside, medium and omelette all in under a minute.
allie06nd·Jul 8, 4:56 PM
If you have an instant pot, hardboiled eggs are stupid simple. Look up the 5-5-5 method. I also used to make what I called a "Lazy McMuffin" which was grease a glass ramekin with cooking spray, plop and egg in there, and then cook that, frozen turkey sausage, and a frozen English muffin in the microwave on 50% power for 2 minutes (I THINK. It's been a minute since I've made them, and I know I had to play around with the power level so the egg didn't explode).
papageitaucher·Jul 9, 7:31 AM
I mostly eat eggs hard boiled, soft boiled, scrambled, or in an omelette, but the most low-effort method I know is baked eggs. Take a ramekin, grease it, break 1-2 eggs in it, bake in oven until desired doneness reached.
beardedbaldman·Jul 10, 6:38 AM
How hard is scrambling them in a pan? It's one pan, a few minutes and essentially no prep if you scramble them directly in the pan. I suppose cracking them directly into your mouth is less work, but it seems a step too far.
makestuff24_7·Jul 10, 8:20 AM
You can scramble eggs in a pan in 2m
equivalent_leopard71·Jul 11, 3:46 AM
Bake hard boiled eggs in the oven in a muffin pan
eamceuen·Jul 11, 4:15 AM
This is the way. I hardboil 16 at a time (what fits in my big pan lol) and that lasts us 4 days.
ralphdeonori·Jul 11, 6:53 AM
Medium boil, peel right away store in fridge
poloniumpanda·Jul 11, 7:13 AM
buy a hard boiled egg maker. i got one for less than $20 that makes 7 at a time. or you can make hard boiled eggs in an instant pot
paka96819·Jul 12, 4:07 AM
Microwave in a ceramic bowl
responsible_bread996·Jul 12, 4:34 AM
If you don't preheat your pan its going to stick pretty bad though.

Came here to say this. I love them this way
n9netailz·Jul 21, 3:53 PM
Microwave them
monkeybred·Jul 27, 7:10 PM
Look into Nordic Ware egg cooker products. You can't get much easier than microwaved... and to make it taste good, you need equipment to capture the steam (and possibly add a little butter). #LAZYMAXXING
responsible_bread9_2·Jul 27, 7:43 PM
I saw one guy take sugar free chocolate syrup and dump it into a carton of pasturized egg whites. 1. Minimal effort 2. Almost zero added calories. 3. chocolatey good taste.
remarkablebeach1603·Jul 27, 8:09 PM
Difference is you actually have to actively pay attention and fry them. Microwave is set and forget until the beep.
kawaiidere·Jul 27, 9:28 PM
I do this too. Spray a bowl/mug with cooking spray, add 2-3 eggs, beat with a fork, add optional fixings, microwave 2-3 minutes (monitoring to avoid explosion), and done. It's great when using the stove isn't an option or you don't want to wash the pan. One dish for prep, cooking, and serving.
captainunlimitd·Jul 27, 9:44 PM
Even better, a ceramic mug. Perfect size to slap into a bagel or English muffin.
liberal_texan·Jul 28, 1:48 PM
You can also “hard boil” them in the oven or air fryer to eliminate having to use a pot.
playpauserew13·Jul 30, 6:06 AM
Fried eggs finished by steaming is super easy and usually minimal cleanup once you get the hang of it. 1 Warm up the pan on medium-low heat, spray some pam, crack the eggs in and salt and pepper to taste. 2 Once they start turning white, drip a small splash of water in the pan and cover so the vapor traps. (You want enough water so it creates vapor but not so much you have a bunch of liquid still in the pan, I literally just on/off the faucet lightly and quickly on the pan lid and that's usually about right). 3 After a few minutes the yolk should start getting a glazed color over them and from there cook it until your preferred doneness. They usually slide right off the pan minimal fuss, perfect sizes for toast, and cleanup is just the pan/lid/spatula/plate/fork. Calories are just the eggs and toast/butter if you opt for those.
incredibly_warranted·Jul 30, 6:14 AM
Omg in the air fryer? How
anxietycucumbers·Jul 30, 6:18 AM
As another lazy person I can't do hard boiled eggs because of the shells. Drives me crazy
joefromohio·Jul 30, 6:45 AM
Egg ‘muffins’ are really efficient and it lets you change it up with random mix-ins. Take a dozen eggs, whip them all up and pour them I to a muffin tin. Single cook and they reheat perfectly
ambiance6462·Jul 31, 3:38 AM
hard boil in a hard boiled egg maker so you don't even have to boil water. get the $10 hamilton beach one, works fine
galactictock·Jul 31, 5:55 AM
I make them soft boiled in an instapot. It’s maybe not the fastest way to make eggs, but it is quite passive in terms of effort and cleanup.
potato_tea·Aug 3, 1:37 AM
Same. Fill a mug half way with water, crack in an egg, stab the yolk with a fork, and microwave for 2 to 3 minutes. Then fish it out with a fork and pat dry on some paper towel.
fine_ad_2081·Aug 3, 3:53 AM
120°C 15 minutes for hard boiled, 12 min for soft. Just put egg in the basket, no preheating required.
few_cable5130·Aug 3, 4:22 AM
Cleaning the pan is a special level of hell. I don't use non stick cookware and both the 'hot and fast' and 'low and slow' methods result in a pan the requires soaking and scraping.
souldawg·Aug 3, 4:52 AM
You can also scramble in a microwave. In depths of depression this felt far easier than doing it in a pan and having to clean that.
cannedam2·Aug 3, 5:19 AM
An egg cooker. It will boil six eggs, and you can do 2 poached, or a large round scramble. Easy to clean. Easy to use.
galactictock_2·Aug 7, 8:52 PM
Instapot is my go-to method, though I make soft-boiled. Just 2 minutes on the timer instead of 5.
handrewjobert·Aug 8, 10:45 PM
I agree with the people saying hard-boiled, but I steam them so I don't have to wait for a huge pot of water to boil. You only need about an inch of water (you can use a steamer basket or not; I usually don't) and then just make sure to give them a dunk or rinse in cold water afterward.
cannabinabinabinoids·Aug 8, 11:10 PM
I've cracked one on my teeth and swallowed it straight once on a dare. It's not terrible but I wouldn't do it again haha
scarletdarkstar·Aug 9, 10:53 AM
Drop them in a warm pan with melted butter in it. Wait about 3 minutes, plate, eat with salsa and toast. You can fry as many or few as you like. Also, you can throw in any vegetables and cheese you have handy, and stir them. A scramble is very easy.
ecaracal·Aug 9, 1:14 PM
I like to make a frittata for me and my husband - his half gets his toppings, my half gets mine. It bakes while I ignore it and do my morning stuff and make coffee or whatever. By the time I'm done its ready and delicious.
beardedbaldman_2·Aug 11, 4:35 PM

sickseveneight·Aug 11, 4:42 PM
What is this madness. I'm going to try this out tonight and if the egg blows up in my face, I'll be coming for you.
sadexercises420·Aug 11, 5:03 PM
lol I made scrambled eggs this morning and it took a lot of self motivation to do it. I know it’s easy, it’s super easy and super quick and comes out tasty. Yet, even with that I have to fight my laziness.
chigzy·Aug 11, 7:03 PM
This answer took too long to find. Likely the laziest way.
different_key_9594·Aug 11, 7:22 PM
I do boiled eggs with baby potatoes and make it into a egg salad kinda and it’s easy to make and satisfying
waitismyheadonfire·Aug 11, 7:49 PM
I got this little egg cooker and I love it. You can make soft boiled, hard boiled, med boiled eggs perfect every time. You can make 1-7 eggs with minimal effort. Takes up less space than a pot, and great if you don't have a kitchen.
southern_self_7278·Aug 11, 10:36 PM
Get an egg cooker. It’s cheap, ridiculously easy and you get a perfect peel every time.
magstar222·Aug 17, 8:44 AM
We use an egg steamer and make at least 12 hard cooked eggs every week.
fine_ad_2081_2·Aug 18, 8:10 PM
That's the only way i "boil" eggs now. Out of the dozens i cooked, only two cracked (not exploded, don't worry). Whereas boiling in the water eggs would crack more than half the time.
stock_anywhere_2333·Aug 25, 7:31 PM
Same
fox3actual·Aug 30, 12:31 AM
Hard-boil up to a dozen in the Instant Pot. Makes a good snack with just s&p Or make a quick egg salad and roll it up in a flatbread/tortilla
liberal_texan_2·Sep 1, 11:48 PM
Since others have answered you I’ll just give one caveat, in my experience they don’t peel as well as boiling with a pinhole in the fat end. Can’t beat the convenience though.
icepix·Sep 2, 12:06 AM
i don't know of any easier method than boiling or frying them
chicklette·Sep 2, 12:17 AM
They peel SO easy in the IP. Only way I boil them now.
bright_pangolin7261·Sep 2, 12:36 AM
What time and power level?
thetalentedmzripley·Sep 2, 12:54 AM
Baked or shirred eggs are easy; they only take 10-15 minutes. If I’m doing 1 portion I use the toaster oven, if I’m prepping multiple the regular oven. I mix everything in the ramekin for the single portion. For more, you just need 1 bowl and then scoop it into whatever dish your using; or you can use a large square/rectangle pan, mix everything there, and cut to size once cooked.
ehloanna·Sep 2, 2:34 AM
I assume you're using a stainless pan? Pre-heat pan. While it heats whisk up your eggs in a bowl if you're doing scrambled. Spray with pam or use butter or whatever on the pan. Put eggs in pan. Don't touch them until they start to turn white. I find a lot of the egg cooking to the pan happens when people try to move them around before they've had time to cook. Think of it like when you put a steak on the pan - it won't release until it's cooked enough. That's what the eggs want too. So once they're cooked enough I tend to just use a spatula and flip them and let them finish and as they do I "chop" them with my spatula for scrambled. If you're doing like a sunny side up egg I find just putting the lid on is enough. Sometimes adding a little bit of water to steam it a smidge. Does not work well when cooking on low since there's not enough heat rising to keep the top side from being fully raw and goopy.
awooff·Sep 2, 2:43 AM
Beat 2 eggs, microwave 2 min. Lets set 1 min. Put on toast w jam or ketchup.
something86·Sep 2, 5:11 AM
I get the pics de gallo salsa (can be premade) and mix a spoonful in a glass with 2 beaten eggs. Microwave for 1 min 20 seconds, wrap with tortilla or make a sandwich.
sadexercises420_2·Sep 2, 7:42 AM
Yup, tons of butter
ehloanna_2·Sep 2, 7:53 PM
Softboiled/hardboiled eggs made in a batch will last across several days. I would say that's 5mins to boil water, 8-12 mins to cool, maybe 10mins to cool, and maybe 5mins to peel? And could be 2-4 days of eggs.
jorlmn·Sep 2, 8:17 PM
Put water into hot pan right after you dish the egg, scrape a bit with the spatula. The water in a hot pan essentially deglazes it. Its insanely more efficient than waiting to clean off stuck egg and only takes a few seconds of prep. Or use more fat when cooking
wtfisthisomgreally·Sep 2, 9:22 PM
I use an egg sandwich maker from amazon. It makes amazing breakfast sandwiches from English muffins, eggs, (and optionally) ham and cheese
kalendral_42·Sep 3, 12:46 AM
Potato baked eggs, mushroom baked eggs, bean baked eggs, avocado baked eggs Or you could do microwave eggs
plexipus·Sep 3, 12:59 AM
The human brain is so weird. It can convince itself that scrambling eggs counts as cooking and that it would somehow be more convenient to get in the car and drive ten minutes to order from the drive through than cracking a few eggs in a pan and waiting for a few minutes
kjodle·Sep 5, 12:02 PM
Hard boil in the air fryer. 20 minutes at 250F, then run cold water over them. Salt, pepper, no mess, no added calories.
floydbomb·Sep 5, 1:30 PM
Use butter
sleepycapybara·Sep 5, 3:42 PM
This is a fantastic way to make eggs in an oven. Really easy too. https://www.wskg.org/arts/2022-06-30/americas-test-kitchen-egg-kimchi-and-avocado-sandwiches-ep-2215
valkaress_2·Sep 6, 1:45 AM
I do have an instapot so this does sound interesting. How do you do it exactly?
longjumping_stage_42·Sep 6, 5:55 AM
This is the way
xspyxex·Sep 7, 2:41 PM
Yeah deglazing after cooking makes a world of difference. Usually it's not the eggs cooking that's the problem, it's the eggs drying out while you wait for the pan to cool.
onepostandbye·Sep 7, 3:03 PM
r/fuckyourquestion
flipsychic·Sep 8, 3:00 AM
I have a little egg cooker. $15 and totally worth it. You can put 7 eggs on the little rack, add a scoop of water, plug it in, go do the rest of your kitchen chores and they are fully cooked in 15 minutes.
hypatiaredux·Sep 8, 3:07 AM
I set my IP to steam and zero minutes. Ignore the IP for the next 20 minutes or so. The cooking will have finished and the steam will have naturally released. Take them out and peel under cold running water. Done perfectly. But I have to admit that if you want flavor, nothing beats fried eggs. I do mine on a well-seasoned cast-iron griddle, very little cleanup involved.
